In the first season of Idea star singer, around 7000 contestants participated from various states. After the 'sudden death round' , from the 100 contestants only 45 were selected to the Quarter final, conducted at Kochi .After the Quarter final 25 best singers entered the semi final and the final episode carried out a very tough competition among 10 top contestants. The judges had a huge responsibility of choosing the most calibered and talented two from them - Arun raj and Kavitha.

During the process of screening, the contestants were given special training in topics like Vocal controlling through the practice of Yoga and classes by an expert Voice therapist were also included.One of the most veteran musicians Sri Vidyadharan took classes on music practising while their training also included sessions on grooming and stage performance methods by experts in the respective fields.

The chief judge was the eminent musician and play back singer M.Jayachandran while the panel included famous personalities like K,S.Chithra, M.G.Radhakrishnan, Tippu,Deepak Dev, Jassie Gift, Chithra Iyer,and many other pioneers from the field of music.The winners were given a gift of rupees 1 Lakh by Nagpal Builders .A gift package of Rupees 3.5 Lakhs were sponsored to the final participants by Jayalekshmi Silks .A motorola handset was given as a special gift to all the finalists and judges.
